2-22

En Français plus bas

If you have been walking in downtown Montreal this winter you may have noticed this completely innovative structure rising on the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Saint-Lawrence. It is the 2-22 an architectural work of art, designed by AEdifica+Gilles Huot, Architectes, that reflects the creative audacity of our city. The building is part of a larger project taken on by SOCIÉTÉ DE DÉVELOPPEMENT ANGUS to revitalize that historically meaningful section of Montreal where cabarets were renowed for their scandalous nightlife inhabited by strippers like Lili St-Cyr to gangsters to transvestites.

The building is now home to several cultural centers that are ready to receive you as the building is open for business! On the first floor you have access to a multimedia center offered by LA VITRINE ( www.lavitrine.com ) that will help you see at a glance all the cultural activities going on in the city including all the information you need to plan your evening. A sparkling new restaurant named le St.Cyr ( www.lestcyr.com ) in honor of the notorious dancer offers a cocktail hour with a menu of classical French cuisine. Moving up to the third and fourth floor, Art Actuel 2-22 is a grouping together of Artexte ( www.artexte.ca ), RCAAQ Regroupement des centres d'artistes autogérés du Québec ( www.rcaaq.org ), VOX a center for contemporary art
( www.voxphoto.com ), and the offices of CIBL 101,5 radio station inhabit the second floor with studios right in the ultra modern entrance hall. And there is more but you will have to allow yourself a visit.
Most of the art exhibits will open on March 16 2012, but you are welcomed to visit the unique edifice now.
