Festival Nouveau Cinéma & +

FNC Sélections / Selections

THE END
ENGLISH •

Monday October 10 film suggestions:

The Lockpicker is the first feature film from Calgary based writer director Randall Okita starring Jordan Gray, Madi Langdon, and Kiegian Umi Tang. It looks at a young man's disturbing grieving process after the suicide of a schoolgirl.

Porno e Liberta is a documentary about pornography in Italian movie making in the 1970s where it was used as a rebellion against sexual oppression. Directed by Carmine Amoroso.

And for an epic cinematographic experience try A Lullaby To The Sorrowful Mystery, an 8 hour long black and white film that spans three centuries of life and suffering in the Phillipines.

MIDDLE SCHOOL: The Worst Years Of My Life
is the story of a young boy, Rafe played by Griffin Gluck, who finds balance in his life by escaping into the comic book he has been drawing for a few years. His mom Jules is played by Lauren Graham, well known for her work on television (Gilmore Girls, Parenthood), Rafe's best friend Leo is played by Thomas Barbusca. This last relationship is the heart of the movie that evokes The Sixth Sense in its final dénouement. The soundtrack is dynamic. The style of the movie incorporates animated features with live action and it is bound to please its targeted market of preteens.

Prize for Films on Art, ISELP, Bruxelles - FIPRESCI International Film Critics' Prize, Indie Lisboa, Portugal
The Goethe-Institut is inviting the public to a screening of the film Before We Go by Jorge Leon. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Meg Stuart, moderated by Philip Szporer. Dancers and choreographers Meg Stuart, Benoît Lachambre and Simone Aughterlony meet Lidia, Michel and Noël who are already enfeebled by age. All are prepared to live a unique experience in the sumptuous setting of the Opéra de la Monnaie. In an unexpected manner, both physical and lyrical, Before We Go, raises the veil on a still taboo subject  - the end of life – while using all art forms to create a true homage to life and to human fragility.
