FNC • SEA SORROW by Vanessa Redgrave

The extraordinary British actress Vanessa Redgrave is in Montreal NOW to promote the film she directed, SEA SORROW,  and to ask all of us the most important questions of our times about ourselves.

Calais Jungle
The movie struck an arrow in my heart from the very first moment when three young men, refugees in Italy, recount the fear, the grief, the shock they experienced while escaping unimaginable violence at the hands of their fellow men. We visit the Calais Jungle where thousands of people have been stuck for a long time, where hundreds of children have disappeared, where food and water was scarce. We meet extraordinary people that are touched by the plight of the thousands of children scattered in Europe, exploited sexually, vanished!

The actress puts the refugee crisis of the present in context with the recent history of the Holocaust and the current rise of the Nazi movement. She herself experienced displacement as a child during WW II when the Germans bombed London. We are asked to remember that we are all human beings and that our bond must stand for something. There is sublime beauty in the acts of loving and assisting the young families that are in a state of shock after their harrowing escapes from the mercenary attitudes of too many men at this time in our history. There is too much unfounded racist hatred in the world and history has shown us some people can overcome their propensity to hate who they do not know.

We had the privilege of talking with Vanessa Redgrave, ask her questions, give our opinions. You will have your chance Saturday October 14, 2017 17:15 Cineplex Odeon Quartier SALLE 10
Don't miss it!

The beauty of the film is enhanced by  the performances by Ralph Fiennes and Emma Thompson.
