N'ayez pas peur que vous ne trouverai pas ce cadeau unique pour vos personnes aimées durant la période festive! Le Salon des métiers d'arts du Québec est maintenant ouvert au Palais des Congrès et le sera jusqu'au 19 décembre!

Vous y trouverai des merveilles! J'ai déjà trouvé un cadeau important, des boucles d'oreilles en argent sterling et en cuivre par la joaillière Claudine Moncion.

Les disciplines se multiplient et ce qu'on retrouve au salon est indéniablement fabriqué avec amour et maîtrise ce qui garanti la qualité exceptionnelle de nos achats. On retrouve des jouets, des sacs en cuir, des vêtements en cuir, des bijoux, des accessoires, des objets peints, des céramiques, des foulards tissé à la main! Mais ce n'est pas tout! Cette année, Christian Bégin et Lolitta Dandoy sont les portes paroles qui transmettent leurs expertises et enthousiasmes à la fois sur le terrain et par le biais d'entrevues diffusées ICI. Un autre élément d'émerveillement est la Triennale en Métiers d'art: L'Éloge du fil qui regroupe des oeuvres magnifiques et plusieurs artistes seront sur place pour vous parler de leur pratique et leur parcours.

Finalement, si vous avez les moyens de vous offrir une suite au Fairmont Le Reine Elizabeth, vous pourrez demander l'élégante suite 2042 qui a été transformée par le génie créateur de notre estimé Jean-Claude Poitras qui a été le commissaire qui a rassemblé des pièces de 30 artisans pour illuminer l'espace.

THE MONKEY KING : REBORN

A totally stunning animated feature inspired by a classic of Chinese literature, Journey to the West. The beauty of this film takes my breath away: the attention to details, the exquisite costumes of the many characters, the luscious sceneries. 

As a young buddhist monk, Tang Monk, visits a temple his mischievous companion the Monkey King destroys a magic tree that for centuries had trapped the worst demon of all times, the ancient  PRIMORDIUM!!!!

An epic battle ensues after the evil Primordium kidnaps Tang Monk and Monkey King and his fellow disciples set forth to save their master! 

The movie is relentless with its splendour! Villains and heroes are just superb! Look at the multi-eyed villain on the left, Bright Moon / Multiple-eyes Ghost Master for example. Isn't he just magnificent!

It will soon be available in Blu-ray and DVD format and you will be able to find a version that is dubbed in English. I believe this movie will be a jewel in your entertainment collection.

ART and new technology : a scary new reality

What a delight it was this past Tuesday to visit the MAC and see the excellent team that puts on challenging high quality contemporary art shows in Montreal. It has been more than two years since I had been to the Museum, like most of you I am sure. In the temporary new location at Place Ville Marie John Zeppetelli, MAC Director and curator of the exhibition, introduced a mind boggling exhibition. Anchored in numerical pieces the exhibition reveals a scary and dangerous landscape where artificial intelligence, spyware, facial recognition software and technologies I don't have a name for yet, serve the interests of the governments, mega wealthy industries and powerful persons. 

Eyal Weizman, Director of Forensic Architecture, recounted clearly how NSO, a complex system of surveillance Israel uses to dominate Palestinians is evolving as a cyber menace. Many countries are now using these technologies to clam down on dissidents or just anyone they feel are a threat to their interests. People disappear never to be seen again sometimes in front of surveillance cameras like the case of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Laura Poitras, an Oscar winning documentary filmmaker (on Bill Maher) and journalist, has herself been victimized by surveillance technologies when the US government became suspicious of her after she made a film about the Irak war My Country, My Country. Her quest for the truth led to her involvement with whistleblowers like Edward Snowdon Reality Winner and Julian Assange founder of Wikileaks. She is a force of nature and brings vitality to the information that is revealed throughout the exhibition.

When at the press conference I asked John Zeppetelli if he considered the exhibition transdisciplinary art. Although he considered what transdisciplinary art meant, he was not ready to confirm this point at this time. From my perspective I consider the wide scope of the exhibition and the many experts from many fields involved make it a transdisciplinary exhibition.

I also asked what they thought of the upcoming metaverse feature that will soon be distributed by META formerly known as Facebook. Digital artists are seriously exploiting what they will present in metaverse at this time.  Eyal Weizman said that, at this time, they employ metaverse technologies and virtual reality as tools for victims and witnesses to tell their stories and share evidentiary testimonies.

LifeFORM, 2020/ Herman Kolgen

HYPNOTIC is the word I would use to describe this extraordinary exhibition of digital art that has transcended many boundaries. It is happening now at Arsenal Contemporary Art and trust me you don't want to miss it!

LifeFORM by Herman Kolgen has stolen my heart and it is not because it is my only love. It is because it synthesizes for me the entire exhibition brilliantly curated by Alain Thibault. In this work, the artist wants us to experience the fragility of our existence, of our beings, even of our minds. I got a sense of moisture from the moving molecules, the geometrical shapes that connect the tissues of what is becoming a young man. Then the life bubble is plunged in a busy universe with many moving life bubbles moving to and fro.

The title of the show is METAMORPHOSIS and we experience this transformation that life is about all through the approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes tour. There are excellent tour guides on the site who will offer 30 minute tours. Follow the link to find out more about the guided tours.

We experience novel esthetics brought forth by both homegrown: Michel de Broin, Louis-Philippe Rondeau, Bill Vorn: and international artists: Ryoichi Kurokawa, Justine Emard, Refik Anadol; to name a few.

If you follow the above links you will see why I loved the entire show. The talent and innovativeness is inspiring and hopeful! You do not need a vaccine passport to visit the exhibition but you must follow safety protocols of hand washing, mask wearing and social distancing.

DOKU-HUMAN 2021/ Lu Yang

CINEMANIA 2021 / dernier mot

Il y a déjà quelques jours que CINÉMANIA est terminé. J'ai tout de même quelques coup de coeur à partager car ces merveilleux films seront disponibles en VSD sur vos chaînes favorites ou au cinéma.

DE SON VIVANT

Ce film d'Emmanuelle Bercot illustre le trajet vers l'autre côté avec finesse et tendresse. Benjamin (Benoît Magimel) est atteint d'un cancer du pancreas au quatrième stade. Sa maman, Crystal (Catherine Deneuve), s'implique dans les soins palliatifs de son fils malgré la résistance de celui-ci. Les deux seront guidés dans ce voyage funeste par Dr Eddé (Gabriel Sara).

Ce qui est brillant de ce film c'est que les conseils de pointe dont fait part Dr Eddé à Benjamin et lors de ses sessions de groupes sont utiles et pertinents pour tout le monde vivant une telle épisode dans leur vie.

MÉDECIN DE NUIT d'Elie Wajeman nous transporte dans l'univers des toxicomanes, celui des rues de la ville qu'un médecin sillonne la nuit pour répondre aux urgences et assister les plus marginaux. Cela prend un péage sur la vie de Mikaël (Vincent Macaigne) dont la femme se sent délaissée alors que celui-ci passe les nuits dehors. Un thriller qui se déroule dans une nuit tragique. 

VILLA CAPRICE de Bernard Stora met en vedette Niels Arestrup dans le rôle de Luc Germon, un avocat puissant et blasé qui sait négocier les affaires difficiles. Il est sollicité par le puissant homme d'affaire Gilles Fontaine (Patrick Bruel) pour l'aider avec une cause au sujet d'une magnifique villa qu'il a acquit mais dont l'état soupçonne la légalité de la transaction. Un film qui illustre la cruauté extraordinaire et la trahison abjecte que peut faire subir un homme à un autre. Prises de vues magnifiques.

LE DERNIER VOYAGE de Romain Quirot avec Jean Reno, Hugo Becker, et Lya Oussadit-Lessert.  Paul W.R est le seul astronaute au monde capable d'arrêter une Lune rouge déréglée de tomber sur la Terre exterminant ainsi toute vie. Cependant la vie est très difficile depuis que toute la planète ne fait qu'attendre la fin du monde. Paul s'enfuit! Il n'est pas convaincu de sa mission.

ROUGE  Farid Bentoumi a réalisé ce thriller écologique qui met une fille dévouée, Nour Hamadi interprétée par Zita Hanrot,  en opposition à son père avenant, Slimane Hamadi interprété par Sami Bouajila, qui fait tout pour sa famille, lorsque celle-ci découvre des pratiques sanitaires dangereuses pour les travailleurs de l'usine qui vient de l'embaucher ainsi que pour l'environnement. Ce film est basé sur des faits réels qui se sont déroulés à la Centrale de Gardanne. À la fin on nous montre les vrais photos du ravage causé par la déforestation et les éléments contaminant qui ont été jetés dans l'eau du village causant ainsi la terre rouge.
