When I went to the screening of BIUTIFUL starring Academy Award Winner JAVIER BARDEM in the role of Uxbal I was not expecting the deep and moving journey I experienced. It is a movie about a father's love for his two children, about how love is sometimes not enough, about the human condition in our modern times, and about life after death.
The neighborhood is depressed enough, and the working conditions for all the characters are quite difficult, yet little snippets of surrealism emerge here and there in the scenery. This is very Latin and it is a style called magical realism. In this case it adds a shattering profoundness to the story because we know everything in that man's world is coming apart.
JAVIER BARDEM's performance is riveting. He is pure love and grief, a mixture we all know just for being alive.
I am still assimilating the extraordinary impact this film by ALEJANDRO GONZÂLEZ INÂRITU had on me.
It is BIUTIFUL.

Quand je me suis rendue au visionnement de BIUTIFUL mettant en vedette le gagnant d'un Academy Award JAVIER BARDEM dans le rôle de Uxbal, je ne savais pas dans quel voyage profond et émouvant je m'engageais. C'est un film à propos de l'amour d'un père pour ses deux enfants, à propos de ces moments où l'amour n'est pas suffisant, c'est à propos de la condition humaine dans nos temps modernes, et c'est à propos de la vie après la mort.
Le quartier où se déroule l'histoire est très déssuet, et les conditions de travails pour tous les personnages sont extrêmement difficiles, pourtant des petits morceaux de surréalisme émergent ici et là dans le décor. Cette approche est très Latine, c'est le style qu'on nomme réalisme magique. Dans ce contexte, le style ajoute une dimenssion abyssimale déchirante car nous savons que tout dans la vie du protagoniste est à la dérive.
La performance de JAVIER BARDEM est captivante. Il est amour pure et désolation, une combinaison que nous connaissons tous du fait d'être vivants.
Je suis encore en train d'assimiler l'impact extraordinaire que ce film par ALEJANDRO GONZÂLEZ INÂRITU a eu sur moi.
Il est BIUTIFUL.
