This last week DOMINIC BESNER, second photo on the left with friend JOËLLE, and the team of GALERIE MX launched the artist's new show with a blast! We were whisked away to a secret location (le Manège Militaire Côtes des Neiges) where we then entered the world of Besner's imagination, a land of the future in which awakens the mythical MORA, a character from a story written by the artist. I had met Dominic Besner in 2004 on the radio show I produced then. It was quite a thrill to see how his work has progressed in terms of its depth and richness. New on his work are meticulously painted letters that give details about the places and characters involved in the unfolding the drama.

The entire space was transformed into a magical city where we were delighted with champagne, music, the most beautiful people you ever saw, scrumptious food, and a show that blew us away. DIANE DUFRESNE!!! YES !!! Gave us a chillingly delicious performance. And this was one among the many astonishing performances.

Two impressive talents produced the event: FRANÇOIS LAUZON, third photo from the left, and BENOIT BEAUCHAMP fourth photo from the left. Extra kudos to MICHAEL MENSI for the original idea.

This gorgeous exhibit is now on display at Galerie MX until November 14 2011.

Cette semaine DOMINIC BESNER, seconde photo de la gauche avec son amie JOËLLE, et l'équipe de GALERIE MX ont lancé la nouvelle exposition de l'artiste avec un coup du tonnerre! On s'est fait transportés dans un lieu secret ( le Manège Militaire Côtes des Neiges) où nous sommes entrés dans l'imaginaire de Besner, une terre du futur où s'éveille la créature mythique MORA, un personnage d'un roman écrit par l'artiste. J'avais déjà rencontré Dominic Besner en 2004 alors que je réalisais une émission de radio. C'était très excitant de voir comment son oeuvre a évolué en termes de profondeur et de richesse expressive. Nouveau sur son travail sont des lettres méticuleusement peintes pour ajouter des détails sur les lieux et les personnages impliqués dans ce drame en évolution.

L'espace entier était transformé en cité enchantée où nous dégustions du champagne, des bouchées succulentes, de la musique, les plus belles personnes que nous avions jamais vues et un spectacle qui nous a renversés. DIANE DUFRESNE!!! OUI !!! Nous a fait frissonnés avec une performance délicieuse. Ce n'était qu'une portion des performances impressionnantes qui nous ont charmés.

Deux talents impressionnants ont produit l'événement: FRANÇOIS LAUZON, troisième photo de la gauche, et BENOIT BEAUCHAMP, quatrième photo de la gauche. Des félicitations à MICHAEL MENSI pour l'idée originale.

Cette somptueuse exposition se poursuit à la Galerie MX jusqu'au 14 novembre 2011.

An exciting new way to explore the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts collection while discovering the rich creative genius of our city.

I spoke with Architect GILLES SAUCIER about his contribution that is built around a BORDUAS painting, Composition 11. The element that attracted the architect to this painting was the way the thick slabs of paint in black and white create an illusion of depth in the two dimensional field of the work. He decided he would create an habitable space that would mirror the painting's composition to give the visitor the perception of inhabiting the painting itself, Réflexion 2011 installation.

I was deeply moved by JEANNOT PAINCHAUD's interpretation of RIOPELLE's le cirque, 1955. Painchaud was a circus artist before becoming Artistic Director of Cirque Éloize. He described how he began reacting to the painting by remembering times when he practiced the acrobatics that often left him in severe emotional and physical pain. The pressures of the required practice to make every motion perfect is what he wanted to share with us. For this reason, his video installation brings us very close to the moving artists who are almost bare, baring it all.

This exciting exhibition that features artists of various disciplines is open until January 22 2012 at the Jean-Noël Desmarais Pavillon and it is free!

Une façon excitante d'explorer la collection du Musée des Beaux Arts de Montréal tout en découvrant la richesse des génies créateurs de notre métropole!

J'ai jasé avec l'Architecte GILLES SAUCIER à propos de sa contribution construite autour d'une oeuvre de BORDUAS , Composition 11. L'élément qui a attiré l'architecte vers cette toile est la façon dont la peinture est appliquée en pâte épaisse noire et blanche qui crée une illusion de profondeur dans l'oeuvre à deux dimensions. Il a décidé de faire une installation d'un espace habitable en 3D qui donnerait l'illusion au visiteur qu'il est dans la toile, Réflexion 2011 installation.

J'ai été émue par l'interprétation de JEANNOT PAINCHAUD à propos de la toile de RIOPELLE le cirque, 1955. Painchaud était lui-même un artiste du cirque avant de devenir Directeur Artistique de Cirque Éloize. Il m'a décrit qu'il s'est mis à réagir à la toile par le biais de la mémoire. Il se souvenait de comment les longues heures de pratique des acrobaties le laissaient en douleurs physiques et morales. Les pressions pour atteindre l'excellence, pour éxécuter chaque geste parfaitement, est ce qu'il désirait partager avec nous. Pour cette raison, son installation vidéo nous rapproche des artistes du cirque en session d'entraînement: ils sont presque nus nous dévoilant tout sur leur lutte.

Des artistes reconnus de plusieurs disciplines collaborent à cette exposition qui sera ouverte gratuitement jusqu'au 22 janvier 2012 au Pavillon Jean-Noël Desmarais.
