This past Tuesday I attended the press conference for one of the most outrageous and fun movie festivals in the city! FANTASIA! There are more movies than ever in all categories. There will be many big names in town starting next week among them ELI ROTH whose film Hostel was one of the creepiest movies I have ever seen! This year he is serving THE GREEN INFERNO, a movie about a group of young idealists trying to save the Rain Forest but get trapped in a nightmare when their plane crashes! The most horrific movie I ever saw, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, was directed by the one time college professor turned movie director TOBE HOOPER. He will be at the Festival to present a restored version of his classic. If you have never seen this movie, it is a must! The reason I find it so creepy is because it looks so much like a plausible place, a sleepy village in rural Texas...you must pay special attention to the details to appreciate this disturbing flick. From television, two popular actors will be present: AUBREY PLAZA from Parks and Recreation and MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER from Criminal Minds. Together they star in an hilarious dark comedy called LIFE AFTER BETH. There are so many exciting action and fantastic foreign features I will name a few in no particular order: THE FATAL ENCOUNTER from South Korea, FROM VEGAS TO MACAU from Hong Kong starring CHOW YUN-FAT, Mr. Go also from South Korea, an adorable fantasy. And don't forget our own PATRICIA CHICA's SERPENT's LULLABY premiering July 31st.

Cette année le Festival Fantasia redécouvre des oeuvres du cinéma Québécois qu'on croyait perdus pour toujours. APRÈS SKI par example avec le beau DANIEL PILON, sera présenté au Festival. Retrouvé et revampé, une série qui honore OLIVIER GUIMOND un des plus célébré humoriste de notre province, CESAR à la Belle Étoile, que vous pourrez voir en association avec le Festival Juste pour Rire. Même le premier court métrage de CLAUDE JUTRA et MICHEL BRAULT réalisé en 1948, LE DÉMENT DU LAC JEAN-JEUNE, sera présenté au Festival.

Le film d'ouverture a l'air particulièrement hilarant. Une comédie qui met le monde à l'envers dans un pays où les hommes portent les burkas et les femmes régnent. Jacky au pays des filles mettant en vedette CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG, très drôle! Pour le film de clôture, on revient chez nous avec le nouveau film de RICARDO TROGI 1987, une autre comédie éclatante. Il ne faut pas oublier que le 5 août prochain, en présence du réalisateur ABEL FERRARA, au Théâtre Hall de l’Université Concordia, le film mettant en vedette GÉRARD DEPARDIEU, WELCOME TO NEW YORK fera sa première nord américaine. Ce film est basé sur le scandale New Yorkais de l'affaire DSK (Dominique Strauss Khan). TRÈS SEXY!
