Opening night was so exciting! The atmosphere and the spirit of all participants from organizers to staff to fans is AMAZING! Like all great festivals there are so many good choices that you have to miss one to see the other. I went to the opening ceremonies that took place at the screening of the hilarious movie Jackie in the Kingdom of Women. Directed and written by RIAD SATTOUF it is a warped Cinderella story that looks at a wide range of social issues from gender roles, to religion, to how the food we eat is handled by leaders. It is extremely successful. The whole room was laughing uproariously. VINCENT LACOSTE plays the role of Jacky and he is adorable as the mistreated and poor orphan who will somehow manage to marry the girl of his dreams, La colonelle played by CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG. Before viewing the main feature, we were treated to an AMAZING animated short film Lucky and Finnigan by DAVIDE DI SARO. The drawings resemble black and white ink cartoons that were popular in the 60s but the colors and the movements are 2014. You may have a chance to see this short if you follow the link.

La soirée d'ouverture était si excitante! L'atmosphère et l'esprit de tous les participants, des organisateurs aux personnels aux amateurs, sont ÉPATANTS! Comme tous les grands festivals, il y a trop de bons choix donc on manque certaines choses pour en voir d'autres. Je me suis rendue à la soirée d'ouverture qui coïncidait avec le visionnement de Jackie au Royaume des Filles. Réalisé et écrit par RIAD SATTOUF c'est une histoire de Cendrillon tordue qui regarde un large éventail de sujets sociaux tels le rôle des sexes, la religion, jusqu'à comment les leaders traitent ce que nous mangeons. C'est très réussi. Toute la salle riait aux éclats. VINCENT LACOSTE dans le rôle de Jacky est adorable en tant qu'orphelin abusé qui trouvera quand même le chemin vers sa bien aimée, La colonelle interprétée par CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG. Avant le visionnement du long métrage, nous avons été traité à un  court métrage ÉPATANT de DAVIDE DI SARO, Lucky and Finigan. Les dessins ressemblent aux BD populaires à l'encre noire des années 60 mais les couleurs et le mouvement est très 2014. Vous aurez la chance de voir ce court métrage si vous suivez le lien.
