The gigantic immersive exhibition IMAGINE MONET plunges us into a deep meditative state as we take in the music and the flowing images of this illustrious impressionist painter's masterpiece. The experience is enhanced by the music of Monet's contemporaries like Debussy.
Although nothing compares to being in the physical presence of great paintings this immersive exhibition allows us to observe details in a unique way. For example, Monet never utilizes black. Like his impressionist contemporaries, he valued light that he could capture in cold live action. Due to the immensity of the projections we can see how his brush strokes and use of colours deceive our eyes into the experience of black.
His colour palette consisted of only sic colours: white silver, cadmium yellow, vermilion, dark madder, cobalt blue and emerald green. When you take this fact into consideration as you admire his wonderful craftsmanship it is quite moving.
For example, I examined in detail the scene from his painting The Magpie. It is a winter scene composed of a solitary bird perched on a wooden gate. At first our mind interprets this image as a black and white image. However, as you contemplate it, the colours come alive. You begin to see the purplish blue shadow of the fence contrasted by the muted yellow of the house. The same muted yellow effectively creates sparkling light as it is splashed in small strokes over the silvery horizon. During the exhibition, we enter deep into the paintings and can even see the texture of the canvas.
The exhibition is ongoing in spite of the covid restrictions because it is in such a large space that social distancing is easy and you have all the on site protective measures of disinfectant and fresh masks as needed. To find out more and to purchase your ticket, go HERE.
