Presented in collaboration with Centre Phi and produced by Excurio this immersive expedition transcends everything I have ever experienced so far in VR and I have been following the VR world for more than a decade.
We travel through time and space to visit the Pyramid of Giza with a pleasant and informative guide. The stage is set so that we feel just like tourists trekking along the extraordinary Egyptian monuments. The illusion is perfect, seamless. Our fellow travellers appear like starry humanoids in this alternate reality.
Then, there is the magical appearance of the Goddess Bastet and the experience becomes mystical, spiritual without heaviness. The Egyptians spent a large portion of their lives getting ready for life after death. It is therefore unavoidable to explore Egypt of the past without spending time looking at their ritual and beliefs. We not only assist at a funeral ritual for the Pharaoh with the court attending, we then go on the journey to the other side on the Solar Boat aka Khufu ship. As we travelled the Nile, I was amazed by the visit of Horus as a falcon flying above us, the rendition of the river with gentle ripples of water crowned by water lilies and the shiny white Pyramids when they were young and the world was new.
Beside the artistic and technological achievement, the experience boasts accurate scientific and historical knowledge on Egyptology. I have rarely seen such a liquid synthesis of intellectually and emotionally charged subjects that also engage the body totally.
