This September 11th I braved a chilly night to party @ Galerie Youn where CHRIS BUCK had an opening. It was such fun and so interesting. Two photographs taken by this Canadian born now New York based artist: his portrait of BARAK OBAMA and that of DENIS HOPPER, a famous actor who was also a famous painter who died in May 2010. I asked Chris to tell me what its like to photograph a United States President inside the White House.

"It wasn't my first visit to the White House. I was given five minutes to photograph the president so I got my gear ready. When he walked in I asked him if I could take his picture with his face in an angle with his eyes looking on the side. He told me he would not and as he was talking I shot the picture that is here."

In less than five, his work was done! The image is so expressive. We get a true sense of the weight on this President's shoulders. Then I expressed my jealousy that he had met Denis Hopper. "I took the photograph in the 90s. I told him to lean forward and this shoot went down fast also, I was done in five minutes." The reason he needs to work fast is that many of these high profile celebrities have many bookings with other high profile individuals.

You will see many of your favorite celebrities interpreted through Chris Buck's lens. And You will enjoy the gallery as much as I do. It is all about style and the owner, JUNO YOUN, is all about style. At this party we were greeted at the red carpet entrance by a stylish doorman, then we were served champaign, canapés and made exciting conversations with the artists and guests that were also brave enough to face the weather. The show will last until October 5 2014.

Ce 11 septembre j'ai bravé une soirée frisquette pour faire la fête @ Galerie Youn où CHRIS BUCK avait un vernissage. C'était à la fois amusant et intéressant. Deux photos prisent par ce Canadien maintenant établi à New York m'ont captivée: son portrait de BARAK OBAMA et celui de DENIS HOPPER, un acteur célèbre et aussi un peintre de renommé qui est décédé en mai 2010. J'ai demandé à Chris de me raconter comment c'est de photographier le Président des États-Unies à la Maison Blanche.

"Ce n'était pas ma première visite à la Maison Blanche. Je me suis fait donner cinq minutes pour photographier le Président donc j'ai préparé mes appareils. Quand il est entré je lui ai demandé si je pouvais prendre sa photo alors que son visage serait en angle à ma lentille et son regard du coin de l'oeil. Il m'a répondu non et alors qu'il parlait j'ai pris la photo qui est ici."

En moins de cinq minutes son travail était accompli! L'image est si expressive. Nous avons un sens réel de la pesanteur qu'a sur les épaules ce Président. J'ai ensuite exprimé ma jalousie qu'il avait rencontré Denis Hopper. "J'ai pris cette photo dans les années 90s. Je lui ai demandé de se pencher par en avant et cette session c'est déroulée rapidement aussi, j'avais terminé en moins de cinq minutes." La raison qu'il doit travailler si rapidement est que ces personnalités ont toujours plusieurs appointements avec d'autres personnalités.

Vous verrez plusieurs célebrités interprétées par les lentilles de Chris Buck. Et vous aimerez la galerie autant que moi. Elle est plein de style et le propriétaire, JUNO YOUN, est d'un style minutieux. Au vernissage, nous sommes entrés en passant par le tapis rouge où un élégant portier nous acceuillait, on nous a servi du champagne et des canapés, et nous avons partagés des conversations excitantes avec les artistes et invités qui avaient été assez courageux pour faire face à la température. L'exposition va durer jusqu'au 5 octobre 2014.
