I saw the latest Michael Moore movie, Fahrenheit 11 / 9, this week-end when Paul Manafort agreed to collaborate with Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller and Superior Court Judge nominee Brett Kavanaugh is accused of assaulting a young girl while intoxicated during the last millennium.
Most Americans and many around the world are revolted that an unnamed criminal co-conspirator sits in the White House with access to nuclear weapons that could destroy the world within a few minutes. But how did he get there? In his own style of investigative journalism Michael Moore sets out to review recent history to understand this unprecedented occurrence.
There is a lot going on at once in the movie so it is difficult to streamline the evidence he his showing us. He begins by blaming singer Gwen Stefani for pushing Donald Trump to bid for the presidency because she was being paid more by NBC to appear on The Voice than he was to star in The Apprentice.
Although many feel that Moore is biased in his effort to destroy Trump for me he was fair enough to make me understand why people who had voted Democrat in 2008 and 2012 voted for Trump in 2016. There are many clips showing democrats shutting down people asking them legitimate questions instead of answering their constituents in the way those voters expected to be answered. This element of the equation he brings home with Flint Michigan. For the past several years, a project to privatize the provision of drinking water to the citizens of Flint that was initiated by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has left them with poisoned water. Since then almost everyone in Flint has suffered lead poisoning. The clips showing then President Barack Obama's visit to Flint was the most troubling scene of the movie for me and I got why Trump was elected. I have always admired President Obama but I was devastated by his speech and subsequent disregard for the people of Flint.

By the end of the movie what gave me hope were the American people themselves, rising up by the millions to demand better service from their elected officials. Democracy must never be taken for granted anywhere at any time.
