Opening on Christmas day WAR HORSE by STEVEN SPIELBERG tells a story of love and destiny between a young man and his horse during WORLD WAR I. Stunningly beautiful as you would expect from a SPIELBERG production it lacks the necessary tension of wartime to be completely successful. Emotions stop short instead of going straight to our hearts and making us weep as we should from the suggested story. To give you an example of the awkwardness of the emotional situations, you have a scene where a German soldier in charge of the horses pleads with a superior officer to give the animal a break while all around lay the bodies of men, women, and children. This seemed very creepy to me. Too bad.

Débutant ce jour de Noël CHEVAL DE GUERRE de STEVEN SPIELBERG raconte une histoire d'amour et de destiné entre un jeune homme et son cheval durant la PREMIÈRE GUERRE MONDIALE . Éblouissant de beauté tel qu'on s'attend d'un projet signé SPIELBERG le film manque la tension nécessaire du temps de guerre pour être une vrai réussite. Les émotions s'arrêtent quand elles devraient pénétrer nos coeurs et nous faire pleurer comme le suggère l'histoire. Pour vous donner un example du malaise des situations émotionnelles, une scène avec un soldat Allemand en charge des chevaux qui demande à son officier supérieur si il peut donner une pause à un animal blessé pendant qu'autour d'eux reposent les cadavres d'hommes, de femmes et d'enfants. J'ai trouvé cela morbide plutôt qu'attendrissant. Dommage.

RAIN CIRQUE ÉLOIZE

Last Wednesday we went to the opening night of RAIN by Cirque Éloize. The music transports us in another time as we meet each of the characters. I felt like I was inside a PICASSO from his circus phase, but JEANNOT PAINCHAUD revealed to me that the the director, DANIELE FINZI PASCA was more into CHAGALL. The simplicity of the costumes brings out in me this mood from the turn of the last century. We were charmed, we laughed, we were moved! You will love it! There are additional shows until December 30 2011.

Mercredi dernier nous sommes allées à la soirée d'ouverture de RAIN par Cirque Éloize. La musique nous transporte dans une autre époque alors qu'on rencontre chacun des nouveaux personnages. Je me sentais transposée dans un PICASSO de son époque cirque, mais JEANNOT PAINCHAUD m'a révélée que le metteur en scène, DANIELE FINZI PASCA était plutôt amateur de CHAGALL. La simplicité des costumes fait ressortir en moi cette ambiance qui existait au tournant du dernier siècle. Nous étions charmés, nous avons bien ri, nous étions émus! Vous allez adorer! Des supplémentaires ont été ajoutées jusqu'au 30 décembre 2011.

STEVEN SPIELBERG'S THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN is FABULOUS!!! The movie is completely faithful to the original series of comic book albums created by HERGÉ except all the characters and locations come to life: Capitaine Haddock, Dupond et Dupont, even La Castafiore! The interpretation of TINTIN is beyond my wildest imagination, the way he tries to pull down the curl on top of his forehead, his freckles, the clothes he always wears as he chases a story. I grew up adoring the TINTIN books and I was not disappointed by this movie. The children will love it, and if you loved the albums, you will love it too.

Le film LES AVENTURES DE TINTIN réalisé par STEVEN SPIELBERG est FABULEUX!!! Le film est complètement fidèle à la série originale d'albums de bande dessinée créée par HERGÉ sauf que tous les personnages et locations prennent vie: le Capitaine Haddock, Dupond et Dupont, et même La Castafiore! L'interprétation de TINTIN dépasse mon imaginaire, la façon qu'il tente de défrisser son toupet, ses taches de rousseur, les vêtements qu'il porte toujours alors qu'il chasse une histoire. J'ai grandi adorant les albums de TINTIN et ce film ne m'a pas désappointée. Les enfants vont l'adorer, et si vous avez aimé les albums, vous allez adorer le film aussi.

The prices for a show are still comparatively low so you can afford to bring the whole family to this very special circus during this years Holiday Season.

Last Monday all of Montreal's cinematographic elite were guests at the re-opening of EXCENTRIS. The specialty of this space is it's elegant modern style. I took these images shortly after arriving and already you see a huge crowd. We started the evening with a Cosmos, then went on to tasty canapés and wines. Most of all, we rejoiced that this unique cinema re-opened it's doors to the public.

Lundi dernier l'élite du monde cinématographique de Montréal étaient aux festivités de ré-ouverture du cinéma EXCENTRIS. La spécialité de cette espace est son style élégant et moderne. J'ai capturé ces images peu après mon arrivée et déjà on voit une bonne foule. Nous avons commencé la soirée avec des Cosmos et on a suivit avec des succulents canapés et du vin. Mais surtout, nous étions réjouis que cette salle de cinéma unique soit ré-ouverte au publique.

DOMINIC BESNER @ GALERIE MX

This last week DOMINIC BESNER, second photo on the left with friend JOËLLE, and the team of GALERIE MX launched the artist's new show with a blast! We were whisked away to a secret location (le Manège Militaire Côtes des Neiges) where we then entered the world of Besner's imagination, a land of the future in which awakens the mythical MORA, a character from a story written by the artist. I had met Dominic Besner in 2004 on the radio show I produced then. It was quite a thrill to see how his work has progressed in terms of its depth and richness. New on his work are meticulously painted letters that give details about the places and characters involved in the unfolding the drama.

The entire space was transformed into a magical city where we were delighted with champagne, music, the most beautiful people you ever saw, scrumptious food, and a show that blew us away. DIANE DUFRESNE!!! YES !!! Gave us a chillingly delicious performance. And this was one among the many astonishing performances.

Two impressive talents produced the event: FRANÇOIS LAUZON, third photo from the left, and BENOIT BEAUCHAMP fourth photo from the left. Extra kudos to MICHAEL MENSI for the original idea.

This gorgeous exhibit is now on display at Galerie MX until November 14 2011.

Cette semaine DOMINIC BESNER, seconde photo de la gauche avec son amie JOËLLE, et l'équipe de GALERIE MX ont lancé la nouvelle exposition de l'artiste avec un coup du tonnerre! On s'est fait transportés dans un lieu secret ( le Manège Militaire Côtes des Neiges) où nous sommes entrés dans l'imaginaire de Besner, une terre du futur où s'éveille la créature mythique MORA, un personnage d'un roman écrit par l'artiste. J'avais déjà rencontré Dominic Besner en 2004 alors que je réalisais une émission de radio. C'était très excitant de voir comment son oeuvre a évolué en termes de profondeur et de richesse expressive. Nouveau sur son travail sont des lettres méticuleusement peintes pour ajouter des détails sur les lieux et les personnages impliqués dans ce drame en évolution.

L'espace entier était transformé en cité enchantée où nous dégustions du champagne, des bouchées succulentes, de la musique, les plus belles personnes que nous avions jamais vues et un spectacle qui nous a renversés. DIANE DUFRESNE!!! OUI !!! Nous a fait frissonnés avec une performance délicieuse. Ce n'était qu'une portion des performances impressionnantes qui nous ont charmés.

Deux talents impressionnants ont produit l'événement: FRANÇOIS LAUZON, troisième photo de la gauche, et BENOIT BEAUCHAMP, quatrième photo de la gauche. Des félicitations à MICHAEL MENSI pour l'idée originale.

Cette somptueuse exposition se poursuit à la Galerie MX jusqu'au 14 novembre 2011.
