MILUTIN GUBASH - Ordinary folk 29.08 - 03.10.2015 galerie trois points
Photography, sculpture and installations are the story telling means used by the multidisciplinary artist MILUTIN GUBASH presented in his first solo show at Galerie Trois Points.
The exhibition is divided into two distinct sections and mood. When you enter the gallery you are in the center of a portion of the series Monuments to Communists that reveal what is left of the monuments ordered by TITO in Yugoslavia between 1960 and 1980. Again we can see the excellent photographic skills of the artist in the black & white compositions of generous proportion. The images are rather stark. There is more empty sky than earth. The only living creatures are birds and a few weeds. It does have a profound impact. My reaction was nostalgic and melancholy.
Then you cross over to the Lamps project. The artist wished to mimic contemporary practices of goods production by engaging his aunt who lives in Serbia to produce with found objects the lamps/sculptures he has designed. You will see the colorful sketches in the room. I enjoyed walking through the colorful and illuminated installation where, if you pay attention, you may find surprising little artifacts.
