I was attracted to this movie for the audacity of it's premise: humans building an enormous engine to propel the Earth towards a new solar system. The first thirty minutes establishes who the players are: scientists trying to motorize the Earth for escape vs the protestors who resist the concept and prefer to be transformed into digital but eternal beings. A love story begins between Han Duoduo, played by Wang Zhi, and Liu Peiqiang, played by Wu Jing, only to be interrupted by terrorists who are taking over the ship they were getting ready to test.
Scientist Tu Hengyu, played by Andy Lau, is working on a lunar base where the people are trying to establish workable engineering to proceed with the ambitious project of launching the Earth to a healthy solar system. We discover his own daughter is now in digital eternity.
The film is crisp and the CGI action convincing. I enjoyed the wild exploration into such a visionary script. It is the prequel to Frant Gwo's Wandering Earth 1. The director has said recently that there will eventually be a Wandering Earth 111.
