LA 30e ÉDITION DE FANTASIA SE POURSUIT JUSQU’AU 2 AOÛT

LES FILMS ET ÉVÉNEMENTS PHARES DE LA DEUXIÈME SEMAINE

La 30e édition du Festival international de films Fantasia se poursuit cette semaine et jusqu’au 2 août avec notamment avec la première mondiale du film SOMEONE’S DAUGHTER (v.f. SANS TÉMOIN) de la réalisatrice montréalaise Wiebke von Carolsfeld mettant en vedette Pascale Bussières et François Arnaud, le mardi 21 juillet à 18h30 à l’Auditorium des diplômés de SGWU de Concordia.

UNE SOIRÉE AVEC DON HERTZFELDT - Mardi 21 juillet à 17h30

Le cinéaste d’animation américain Don Hertzfeldt fêtera ses 50 ans cet été et pour célébrer cet anniversaire, Fantasia lui offre une rétrospective d’une partie de son œuvre abondante. 20 ans d’animation névrosée où règne l’humour tragicomique et absurde de l’un des plus importants créateurs de cinéma d’animation. Pour l’occasion réalisateur recevra également le prix Indie Maverick lors de cette soirée.

SOMEONES DAUGHTER (vf SANS TÉMOIN) de Wiebke von Carolsfeld – Mardi 21 juillet à 18h30
Une avocate de la défense (Pascale Bussières) est abandonnée en forêt avec un homme (François Arnaud) qu’elle a défendu avec succès des années auparavant, alors qu’il était accusé d'agressions sexuelles.

LOS VAMPIRES – de Craig Mitchell - Mardi 21 juillet à 21h15
Dans le Hollywood de 1930, un acteur espagnol Henry Ian Cusick, LOST) joue dans la version hispanophone d'un film de vampire. Il est forcé d'imiter son confrère anglophone, et une rivalité se développe entre eux. Un compte-rendu romancé et fantasmagorique de la production du DRACULA de George Melford, sorti en 1931.

FERINE – de Andrea Corsini – Jeudi 23 juillet à 18h30
Une collectionneuse d’art est submergée par des instincts violents à la suite d’une tragédie. FERINE marque un retour au cinéma d’horreur italien provocateur et stylisé, absent des écrans depuis des années.

Extraterrestres, gyarus, vampires... Les filles passent une soirée GROTESQQQUE. Une fusion pop audacieuse d’imagerie et de sonorités qui crée un monde unique.

HOT SPOT – de Agnieszka Smoczynka – Vendredi 24 juillet à 21h30
Dans une société futuriste où l’I.A. contrôle tout, un meurtre fait l’objet d’une enquête. Un film de science-fiction provocateur de la réalisatrice de THE LURE et FUGUE, mettant en vedette Andrzej Konopka, Noomi Rapace et Reika Kirishima.

DRAG – de Raviv Ullman et Greg Yagolnitzer – Samedi 25 juillet à 16h00
Dans cette hilarante comédie noire produite par Danny DeVito, deux sœurs (Lizzy Caplan et Lucy DeVito) se retrouvent coincées dans une maison isolée lorsque l'une d'elles se fait mal au dos lors d'un cambriolage et que le propriétaire (John Stamos!) revient à l'improviste.

THE LAST TEMPTATION OF BECKY – de Jenn Wexler – samedi 25 juillet à 21h30
Becky Hooper (Lulu Wilson) est de retour, et cette fois-ci, elle fait partie de la CIA! Accrochez-vous bien et regardez-la réduire le Quatrième Reich en bouillie! Mettant également en vedette Neil Patrick Harris.

SECOND WEEK’S LANDMARK FILMS AND EVENTS

The 30th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival continues with the world premiere of SOMEONE’S DAUGHTER presented by director Wiebke von Carolsfeld and star Pascale Bussière, the film also stars actor François Arnaud (HEATED RIVALRY) at Concordia University’s SGW Alumni Auditorium, alongside numerous industry guests.

AN EVENING WITH DON HERTZFELDT – Tuesday July 21, 5:30 PM
Don Hertzfeldt turns 50 this summer, and to mark the occasion, a retrospective showcasing a selection of his extensive body of work. Twenty years of neurotic animation, set in a world dominated by the tragicomic and absurd humour of one of the most important figures in the world of animation. For the occasion, the director will also receive Fantasia’s Indie Maverick Award.

SOMEONE’S DAUGHTER – Dir. Wiebke von Carolsfeld – Tuesday July 21, 6:30 PM
Years after defending Paul (François Arnaud, Heated Rivalry) against rape allegations, lawyer Sam (Pascale Bussières) is kidnapped with him by the victim’s father and stranded in the wilderness, forcing her to confront buried truths, justice and survival.

In 1930 Hollywood, a Spanish actor (Henry Ian Cusick) is cast in the night shoot of a vampire film, forced to imitate the English-speaking star (Thomas Kretschmann) who performs the role by day. Rivalry deepens and a series of murders emerge. A fantastical fictionalized account of the making of George Melford’s Spanish DRACULA (1931).

FERINE – Dir. Andrea Corsini – Thursday July 23, 6:50 PM
Carolyn Bracken (ODDITY) astonishes as an art collector who becomes overwhelmed by primal, violent instincts following a sudden tragedy. FERINE marks a return to a provocative and breathtakingly stylish form of Italian horror cinema that has been absent from the screen for years, awash in emotion and transgression.

Two sisters (Lizzy Caplan and Lucy DeVito) find themselves trapped in a remote house when one of them throws her back out during a robbery attempt and the owner (John Stamos!) unexpectedly returns in this very funny and twisted dark comedy from producer Danny DeVito.
