After receiving many requests from couples who wanted to host their wedding in the luxurious rooms of the McCord Museum, those in charge of renting the rooms came up with ideas for weddings. There are several options and points to consider when creating your wedding day and the Museum has these suggestions among many:
-if you invite families to the wedding, you can have professional activity leaders occupying the children
-if you want to have an activity to occupy the adults while you are taking pictures, you can have a package that includes access to all the Museum's exhibitions
-if your cultural background requires special dietary menus, you will be accommodated.

Après avoir reçu plusieurs demandes de couples qui désiraient accueillir leurs invités dans les salles luxueuses du Musée McCord pour leurs noces, les gens en charge de la location des salles ont eu des idées pour pour les marriages. Il y a plusieurs options et points à considérer quand on créé des noces et le Musée a ces suggestions parmi tant d'autres:

The overall sense I got from this fall's exhibitions at the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art is a theme of assimilation and transformation. DANA SCHUTZ, born in a suburb of Detroit, tries to paint impossible scenarios born of her imagination. She challenges herself to mold her medium to express these challenging concepts like the one in the painting above Getting dressed all at once, 2012. The results of her quest are brilliantly colored images that dazzle us with their painterly attributes, their size and the unusual subject matter.

L'impression synthétique que me confère les expositions de cet automne au Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal est un thème d'assimilation et de transformation. DANA SCHUTZ, née en banlieu de Detroit, essait de peindre des scénarios impossibles née de son imaginaire. Elle se défie à sculpter son médium jusqu'à ce qu'il exprime ses concepts difficiles comme celui de la toile en haut Getting dressed all at once (s'habiller d'un seul coup) , 2012. Les résultats de sa quête sont des oeuvres vivements colorées qui nous éblouissent avec leurs attributs picturaux, leurs dimensions et les sujets inusités.

PATRICK BERNATCHEZ is a very versatile artist who expresses himself through multimedia as well as through the more traditional mediums of art. I chose a close-up view of details from his Chrysalide 6, 2006 (image above) series that consist of small exquisitely refined graphite drawings, to illustrate my point. As we were listening to the artist talk about his work and his process, I noticed LESLIE JOHNSTONE's reflection in one of the drawings done on a reflective surface and I realized the drawings were more complicated than they appear as this revealed an extra-dimension to the series. The artist is engaged in art made with music, videos of extreme proportions and elegant photography an example of which is LOST IN TIME, 2014, an image of a striking knight reminiscent of Star Wars movies. I am only scratching the surface of this complex presentation. Be prepared to give it at least an hour but more will be better.

PATRICK BERNATCHEZ est un artiste très versatile qui s'exprime à travers les multimédias ainsi qu'avec les médiums plus traditionnels de l'art. J'ai choisi un gros plan de détails de sa série Chrysalide 6, 2006 (image plus haut) une serie qui consiste en petit dessins fait au graphite exquisément rendus. Alors qu'on écoutait l'artiste parlé de son oeuvre, j'ai constaté le reflet de LESLIE JOHNSTONE dans la portion d'un des dessins qui a été éxécuté sur un support réfléchissant et j'ai réalisé que ses dessins étaient plus compliqués qu'ils apparaissent alors que le cela révélait un élément extra-dimensionnel de la série. L'artiste est engagé dans l'art sonore avec accents musicaux, des vidéos aux proportions extrêmes et aux photographies élégantes telle LOST IN TIME, 2014, une image d'un chevalier qui évoque la sériie de films Guerre des Étoiles. Je ne fais que gratter la surface de cette présentation complexe. Soyez prêts à y passer au moin une heure mais plus sera mieux.

CAMILLE HENROT Grosse Fatigue, 2013

The video installation Grosse Fatigue, 2013, won the Silver Lion at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013 for the French born artist CAMILLE HENROT.  I fell in love with this piece. She won a residency at the prestigious Smithsonian Institute in Washington and produced this hypnotic film that looks at much of the institution's archives and specimens. The music is just perfect for the flowing experience of seeing how this artist resumes evolution and contextualizes it with who we are today with the means we have at our disposal. The music is an original composition by JOAKIM and the voice is AKWETEY ORRACA-TETTEH. LOVED IT!!!!

Cette installation vidéo, intitulée Grosse Fatigue, 2013, a mérité le Lion d'Argent à l'artiste Française  CAMILLE HENROT, lors de la 55e Biennale de Venise en 2013. Elle a obtenue une résidence aux prestigieux Smithsonian Institute de Washington et a produit ce film hypnotique qui regarde au travers les archives et spécimens de l'institution. La musique est simplement parfaite pour l'expérience fluide d'observer comment l'artiste résume l'évolution et la contextualise avec qui nous sommes aujourd'hui avec les moyens dont nous disposons. La musique est une composition originale de JOAKIM et la voix est celle de AKWETEY ORRACA-TETTEH. Il y a des traductions du texte de disponibles dans la salle. J'AI ADORÉ!!!!

THE LAST WITCH HUNTER

JUST IN TIME for Halloween, a witch story! I love a good witch and wizard story! VIN DIESEL stars in this occult action film as Kaulder with ROSE LESLIE of Game of Thrones fame who plays dream-walker Chloe, ELIJAH WOOD and MICHAEL CAIN play Kaulder's handlers, Dolan 37 and Dolan 36, from a secret religious group that keeps us safe from witches. The movie begins in the past when Kaulder confronts the evil Witch Queen ( JULIE ENGELBRECHT) who wants the Black Plague to destroy humanity forever! He must kill the witch's heart for her to be truly dead. As he dashes his sword into her body, surrounded by fire, she curses him to immortality. This is so amusing because when we catch up with modern Kaudler, he is living in a 25 million dollars apartment filled with great art in New York city and dates a stream of young and attractive airline stewardess. I think many men would not mind enduring this endless curse! As you would suspect, the evil Witch Queen is not really dead and her minions have been working on their revenge for 800 years. The strong points of the movie are the elegant decor of the various New York locations, the special effects are quite successful, and it is a fast paced action movie that makes us wonder if magic is real. I enjoyed it tremendously!

BRADLEY COOPER! I love him! In this movie he is a chef, Adam Jones,  who has been through a rough time because of drug addiction creating many enemies along the way. But after cracking open 1 000 000 oysters in New Orleans, he is ready for a fresh start. The cast includes DANIEL BRÜEL who plays Tony, the best Maître'D in London and who is secretly in love with Adam, and SIENNA MILLER, Helene, a single mom who also wants to be a chef. Adam has fixed his intention on acquiring a third star as a chef to set his new beginning on a good path, but his enemies come at him from all directions. Food is one of the most sensuous experience to be had as a human and this movie shows us some great sights that involve the process of making and serving food in the classiest of ways. It is set in London and we do get a few gorgeous shots of the city. It is not a complicated story, it is one of about how when a man sets his mind on something he will fight the obstacles in his way even if they are heartbreaking. DE-LI-CIOUS!

A long time resident of Montreal and a person I have crossed often through the years, PATRICA CHICA,  has received recognition for her craft this week. I share the press release with you:

"OAXACA FILMFEST recognizes creative duo
Patricia Chica and Kamal John Iskander
at their 6th annual awards ceremony in Mexico.

Other winners include:
Martin Scorsese, Guillermo del Toro,
Patricia Arquette and Takashi Miike among others.


(Oaxaca, Mexico) – October 20th, 2015 – The 6th Annual Oaxaca FilmFest, their biggest edition yet, was well attended by filmmakers, screenwriters, and industry reps from Sundance Institute, IndieGogo, Kickstarter, and UTA amongst other notable guests.

This year’s edition saw more than 2,900 works from 98 countries entered in the pre-selection phase, and 297 of them competed in different categories.

A Tricky Treat, an irreverent short comedy directed by acclaimed Canadian filmmaker Patricia Chica, was written by last year’s Best International Screenplay award-winner Kamal John Iskander. The short received a Jury Special Mention in the International Short Film category.

“I have traveled to many festivals in my career, and this one is by far my favorite one on the circuit,” said Patricia Chica in her acceptance speech.

Other winners include: Yakuza Apocalypse (Takashi Miike, Best Director); The Wannabe (Best Picture executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Patricia Arquette - Best Actress and Vincent Piazza - Best Actor); The Thin Yellow Line (Best Mexican Picture, produced by Guillermo del Toro).

 

A Tricky Treat continues its festival tour with upcoming screenings at Screamfest (Hollywood), Morbido (Mexico), Lund International Fantastic Fest (Sweden) and many others around the world.

The film was penned by award-winning writer Kamal John Iskander, executive produced by Tara Kurtz, produced by Patricia Chica, Grace Santos, Byron A. Martin, and co-executive produced by Adonai Interiano and Morris Umali.

Starring Leonard Waldner (the victim), Steve Brewster (father), Andrea Fletcher (mother), Keira McCarthy (daughter), and newcomer Marco Reilly (son). Another Festival du Nouveau Cinéma  has ended. What is marvelous about this festival is that everyone will have a unique way of living it. My journey was about "experiencing the other". I saw most of the movies that intrigued me like The Assassin and Walking Distance. I don't envy the task of the judges who have to choose only one out of so many intriguing works.

Un autre Festival du Nouveau Cinéma de terminer. Ce qui est merveilleux de ce festival est que chacun le vivra de façon unique. Le chemin que j'ai parcouru m'a donné "l'expérience de l'autre". J'ai vu la plupart des films qui m'intrigaient le plus dont The Assassin et Walking Distance. Je n'envie pas la tâche des juges à choisir un seul gagnant parmis tant de belles oeuvres.

Last week an exhibition dedicated to women painters, ELLES, opened at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. It is Marie-Ève Beaupré's first official exhibition for the Museum since being appointed as curator of Montreal and Quebec contemporary art from 1945 onward. She gathered some of the best established and recognized women artists: Marie-Claude Bouthiller, Wanda Koop, Christine Major, Angèle Verret, Carol Wainio, Janet Werner, in this dazzling show that you can see until August 7 2016.

La semaine dernière une exposition dédiée aux femmes peintres, ELLES, a été inaugurée au Musée des Beaux Arts de Montréal. C'est la première exposition officielle de Marie-Ève Beaupré, conservatrice de l'art contemporain Montréalais et Québécois datant de 1945 et plus. Elle rassemble quelques-unes des artistes féminines les mieux établies et reconnues: Marie-Claude Bouthiller, Wanda Koop, Christine Major, Angèle Verret, Carol Wainio, Janet Werner, dans cette expo éblouissante que vous pourrez voir jusqu'au 7 août 2016.

ART CUBA @ Galerie Aura  14.10. - 15.12.2015

I discovered a lovely Montreal gallery, Galerie Aura, that is presenting  ART CUBA this fall. Cuban artists have a unique tale to tell. They retain some of the Caribbean island myths of old as they struggle with poverty to have the materials to produce their art within the limitations of the political regime of Cuba. The two paintings I chose show some of the excellent craftsmanship of the artists and some of the subject matter they are inspired by. Well worth a visit. If you are a collector, you may look into the investment side of Cuban Art as it is rising in value on the world markets.

J'ai découvert une jolie galerie Montréalaise, Galerie Aura, qui présente ART CUBA cet automne. Les artistes Cubains ont une histoire unique à raconter. Ils ont retenu les mythes des îles des Caraïbes alors qu'ils luttent contre la pauvreté pour obtenir les matériaux dont ils ont besoin pour produire leurs oeuvres ainsi qu'avec les limitations politiques de Cuba. Les deux oeuvres que j'ai choisies ici illustrent bien l'excellent savoir-faire des artistes ainsi que quelques sujets qui les inspirent. Cela mérite une visite. Aussi, si vous êtes un collectionneur, cela pourrait vous intéresser d'investiguer l'aspect investissement de l'art Cubain qui est une valeur en ascension dans les marchés internationnaux.
