What a great afternoon spent @ FNC PRO October 13 2015. I was intrigued by the projects discussed and I wanted to find out more about HEXAGRAM an exciting alliance between UQAM and Concordia University that is devoted to the research and creation of art using recent technologies. The first project THE MACHINE TO BE ANOTHER: THROUGH THE OTHER'S EYE by the collective BeAnotherLab blew me away. Using knowledge from neuroscience the collective, represented by MARTE ROEL for the event, have created programs with some basic tools, like videos from their smart phone in one case, to be viewed through the virtual reality goggles that will convince you you are another person. It works! And it is very moving. The second project, THE DEEPER THEY BURY ME, a call from Herman Wallace offers a different model of inter-activity. The producer ANGAD BHALLA engaged in years of communication with and research on the inmate Herman Wallace incarcerated for 41 years in solitary confinement with two other inmates who were accused of the murder of a prison guard. They were known as the Angola Three. Eventually all three would be declared innocent after a cruel lifetime of suffering. In the images below you can see what the artists did for Wallace by creating for him the virtual house of his dreams. The project was presented in the context of Les Nouvelles Écritures exhibited at Hexagram-UQAM. It is an interactive project where you can have a conversation with Herman Wallace as he recounts his life in prison.

L'après midi au FNC PRO se poursuit avec une table ronde dans laquelle JEAN-CHRISTOPHE YACONO, MARIE-PIER GAUTHIER et PIERRE CATTAN ont souligné les conditions chaotiques de l'internet en ce qui concerne les productions de projets convergeants. La question universelle courante est "Comment rejoindre son public cible?". Depuis plusieurs années le télédiffuseurs veulent s'impliquer avec des productions convergeantes qui seront visibles à partir des médias traditionnels ainsi que de l'ordinateur, le smart-phone, les tablettes et ainsi de suite. On a souligné des points importants, mais la recherche se poursuit. Ensuite le professeur et artiste-chercheur JEAN DÉCARIE nous a révélé des projets réalisés et des projets en développement à HEXAGRAM. Il y aura un colloque important ce début novembre, Re-Create, avec des invités internationaux, pour explorer le potentiel à tous les niveaux de ces nouvelles écritures. C'est vraiment fascinant! Ensuite j'ai couru vers  la Salle d'expérimentation Hexagram-UQAM pour vivre l'expérience THE DOGHOUSE: Du Cinéma à la Première Personne, une création de MADS DAMSBO et JOHAN KNATTRUP JENSEN. Vous arrivez avec quatre autre personnes dans une salle à diner montée pour le repas. Chacun enfile ses lunettes de réalité virtuelle pour vivre un des personnages. C'est hallucinant! J'étais le petit garçon. Il courait partout et cela n'a pas été long que j'ai eu le vertige. Ce qui m'a déçue car l'expérience est géniale. Je crois qu'il y avait peut-être un problème technique avec les lunettes car l'image chambranlait ou le fait que la traduction du texte du film a été sous-titré au lieu de vocaliser n'est pas une bonne idée dans ce genre de diffusion si immersive. J'essayais de lire et de regarder mon grand frère mais c'était trop. Cependant quand mon petit garçon s'amusait avec des objets, j'étais étonnée de voir comment mon cerveau acceptait ces mains comme les miennes! Cela promet pour des projets extraordinaires à venir.

Remember by ATOM EGOYAN is a moving thriller about an elderly man who discovers one of his Nazi tormentors has been living for years under an assumed name. Atom Egoyan will be present at the screening this October 16 at Cineplex Odeon Quartier Latin at 7:00 pm.

It is followed by Green Room with a scary interpretation by PATRICK STEWART as a skinhead boss.

Francophonia, Le Louvre Sous Occupation d'ALEXANDRE SOKOUREV est une histoire vrai de comment le Directeur du Louvre lors de la deuxième guerre mondiale a réussi à sauver les trésors du Musée avec l'aide d'un officier des SS. Une aventure époustouflante ce dimanche 18 octobre à 15:30 au Cinéma du Parc.

Et le 18 octobre aussi, à 17:00 au Centre Phi, le film animé Cafard qui raconte une histoire boulversante en splendeur!
