BRIE LARSON and
JACOB TREMBLAY play a mother and son who are imprisoned in a shed until
Ma imagines an escape. We see the movie through
Jack's young eyes. The man who keeps them enslaved is
Old Nick played by
SEAN BRIDGERS. He had kidnapped
Ma when she was seventeen and is
Jack's father although
Ma has never allowed him to see her child. I was intrigued by the story because of the similar cases that made world news in the recent decades. Who would do such a thing to another human being? How does the person return to normalcy after such an ordeal? The movie looks at all these issues but it is a healing experience. Not everything is saved but there is restoration. In its own dimension it is a thriller because from Jack's perspective everything is huge and unknown. Jacob Tremblay is a wonderful young actor and he delivers the goods.
JOAN ALLEN plays
Jack's grand-mother and
WILLIAM H. MACY is the grand-father.
The movie is based on an original story by
EMMA DONOGHUE.
