Lili Reynaud-Dewar is a French installation and performance artist who has developed a far ranging interest in points of intersection and the friction that can come forward. She also produces sculptures and videos.
As you enter the exhibition at the MAC you will see a series of aluminium sculptures. These are produced by two distinct practices, one traditional one ultra modern. The face is captured by the traditional method where a mould and a plaster cast are used to shape molten metal. The bodies are produces by 3D printing.
On the right, you will visit the complex video installation inspired by Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975) an Italian poet and filmmaker who got beaten to death, titled Rome, November 1st and 2nd 1975.
But my favorite part is in the main exhibition space where more than 30 of her videos depicting herself as a nude dancer in as many environments. It is magical! I attached two tiny excerpts that illustrate the process she used to make the videos. These are disposed to fill the space in such a way that you will always see a tiny dancer in an unusual space. You can spend time with one video or move about to experience your own compositions. Just beautiful!
This exhibition is ongoing until September 17, 2023. The exhibition is located in Place Ville Marie.
