At The Movies / Au Cinéma

THE CREATOR
TRAILER

FRANÇAIS app de traduction à gauche

Gareth Edwards director and co-writer with Chris Weitz wrote this dystopian futuristic movie where AI and robotics have become sentient and are fighting for their right to live. This movie proposes a twist to the "robot versus human" conflict to be uncovered at the end of the escape adventure.

The film opens on a romantic scene between a man, Joshua played by John David Washington, and his pregnant wife, Maya played by Gemma Chan. We soon notice that Joshua is an amputee who is fitted with cybernetic replacements while Maya, is pregnant.

What impressed me the most about this movie is the imaginative technology concepts that are explored. I was lucky to see it in IMAX, and if you have a chance to see it in IMAX I do recommend it. The model of the AI robots evokes some of the features of the AI robots of Steven Spielberg's A.I. Artificial Intelligence. The command to destroy all AI robots is launched by the army when a bomb explodes in Los Angeles.

The Creator is a mysterious unknown person genius who is rumored to have developed the ultimate weapon to end all war. Joshua, an ex-special forces agent, is recruited by the military to find and destroy both the Creator and the weapon.

I enjoyed the performance of Allison Janney as Colonel Howell. The performances are convincing, the cinematography excellent. A lot of action, tension and emotions throughout the adventure.

In theatres now.

CREATION OF THE GODS 1: KINGDOM OF STORMS

TRAILER

The first impression I got from this movie was its majesty. Modern cinematography supported by CGI can create unimaginable dimensions and grandeur. The armies are immense, their uniforms, dazzling! The characters are mesmerizingly beautiful.

The script is based by a 16th century book published in China, Investiture of the Gods Novel by Lu Xixing and Xu ZhonglinWuershan directed this complex epic movie that stars Fei Xiang as King Zhou, Luke ChenLi Xuejian as Ji ChangChen Kun as Yuan Shi Tian ZunNarana Erdyneeva as the fox demon possessed concubine and more. If you are lucky enough to find this movie, watch till the end to see the amazing characters emerging for part 2 of this series.

The highlights are the gorgeous special effects, martial arts, tender scenes between characters that create bonds with each other. Demons and Gods interfere in the affairs of humans. The only disappointment I has was that in my city I could not see it in IMAX or at the movies.

This production was supported by two powerful creators: James Schamus screenwriter and producer, and Barrie M. Osborne producer who won an Oscar for his work on Lord Of The Rings, and it shows.

DR. CHEON AND THE LOST TALISMAN

TRAILER

A South Korean mystery where wizards and demons possess a little girl. Kim Seong-sik is the director of this fantastic film with a quest for power at its heart, a talisman. Gang Dong-Won plays Dr Cheon, a fake exorcist with a sidekick, Kang Do-ryung played by Lee Dong-hwi until he is recruited by Yoo-kyung played by Esom to save her possessed sister Yoo-min played by Park So-yi.

A mix of humour, fight scenes, fantasy and mythology swirl into a dazzling series of confrontations and battles of good versus evil while the protagonists attempt to regain an ancestral amulet. Again, the gorgeous supernatural beings just charm me. I love asian cinema, so exotic.

You can now see it on the big screen everywhere and I hope you do!

THE SEND OFF

TRAILER

Writer director John-Michael Powell created the perfect Hollywood creep in the character of Dan Richards played by Zachary Ray Sherman. The film is structured so that we discover the two faces of Dan Richards, a Emmy Award winner, through an ingenious tactic where a black and white interview of the actor is inserted throughout  the ongoing present time story in tandem so we see his public persona versus his obnoxious personal side.

On the night of the story, he has invited only his closest friends for a party where he intends to give them important news. The hypocrisy of sycophants towards the person they hope to gain favour from is so well done in this film where Dan's friends endure all kinds of BS until the last fateful dénouement of this psychological thriller.

I really enjoyed this movie with a stunning ending you wont see coming!

It is now streaming on Amazon TVOD, AppleTV, Tubi
