This summer the discussion is all about our traveling companions, the animals. From the voices of many celebrated artists, we get a glimpse into our complex relationship with this kingdom. The curators for the exhibit are MARIE FRASER and FRANÇOIS LE TOURNEUX. I relished my visit but I was particularly moved by the pieces displayed on top.

On the left, an astonishing work by DAVID ALTMEJD that will leave you breathless. The form of the running zebras is so well executed you may feel like stepping out of their way! I LOVED IT!!!! Center, my discovery this year has been the life and work of AI WEIWEI and here you will see a wonderful piece composed of many golden animal heads. On the right, I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!! a work by MONA HATOUM that you must stand beside to appreciate the simple complexity. You may keep these works forever in the stunning catalog that accompanies the exhibit.

In the context of the BIAN, you can see a remarkable video production by CARSTEN NICOLAI entitled unidisplay. I spent forty minutes in it and I can tell you that if you will allow yourself to go with it, you will experience a moment of ZEN. The strobbing lights reaching infinity in various motifs with rythmic sounds will act on your brainwaves. I found it very relaxing and visually captivating. It will be on display until June 17 2012.

Last Wednesday was the official opening of the GARDEN OF SCULPTURES at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Officials from 34 UNESCO cities were in attendance to view the site and celebrate. We were greeted at the Hall of Mirrors, image on the left, decorated in a sleek contemporary style highlighted by splashes of brilliant colors. On the right, a sneak peek at the new space where you can enjoy a sense of wonderment this summer. You can stop by the Liliane and David M. Stewart Pavilion for the decorative arts and be amazed by the exquisite designs from creators from around the world.

TOM WESSELMANN

Français plus bas

A breath of fresh air invaded the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts this month! A retrospective of POP ART's most famous "unknown" artist TOM WESSELMAN. What a treat to walk through this colorful and ingenious exhibit. The photographs on top can only give you a suggestion of what you will experience once inside. The magnitude of the pieces makes one feel in a land of giants. What is also notable is that his work has all been done lovingly by his own hand.

It is important to note that MARCO LIVINGSTONE, an internationally renowned art historian, has returned as guest curator with the Museum's own STÉPHANE AQUIN for this retrospective. Marco Livingstone's last contributions at the Museum were GEORGE SEGAL and DUANE HANSON, two exquisite exhibitions I was priviledged to experience.
From May 19 to October 7 2012

Also note that you still have until June 13 2012 to visit the The International Biennial of Digital Art: First Edition (BIAN)at the Museum. You will experience the complex work FRAGMENTATION a collaboration between Sarah Kenderdine, Jeffrey Shaw and Robert Lepage. The entrance for this event is free.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU'RE EXPECTING

Based on the popular book of the same title WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU'RE EXPECTING with a cast of celebrities like CAMERON DIAZ, JENNIFER LOPEZ and CHRIS ROCK to name a few, looks at the experiences of several couples as they bring babies into the world or into their lives.

The movie is not as uproariously funny as it is promoted to be but I truly enjoyed many facets of it. I enjoyed the THE DUDES formed by dads who take their children to the park and use that time to express their views about wives and family. I enjoyed the unveiling of pregnancies darker issues and the impact they have on a woman's health and self-image.

The treatment is superficial so the movie retains its lightheartedness.

I LOVED IT!

STEVE JOBS The Lost Interview

En Français plus bas

To tell you the truth, I had never thought much about STEVE JOBS until I heard him speak about facing his own death and the earnestness with which he hoped to give us enlightenment from his process of leaving the world of matter.

When CINEMA DU PARC advised me they were going to show this lost interview beginning on this May 4th 2012 I could not wait to see it. I was not disappointed.

BOB CRINGELY did this interview as part of a series Triumph of the nerds that he did in the mid-nineties. Until recently, they thought they had lost most of the footage until a video of it was found in someone's garage. Lucky for us.

This interview happened in 1995. Jobs had left APPLE 10 years before, was involved in a new project called NeXt and had no idea of the future success coming his way with PIXAR and his return to APPLE.

I just loved that, although we know him as a nerd and a businessman, he reveals his passion for art, good taste, and Spirit! The latter being the single quality I look for when I define what great art is! He was a hard working person, with a vibrant soul and a sparkling genius! Let yourself enjoy this one.
I LOVED IT!!!!
