LE PETIT PRINCE PARMI LES HOMMES @ Montréal

 


Tout le monde connaît "Le Petit Prince", cette histoire magique qui a touché des millions de lecteurs à travers le monde. Mais qui était réellement l'homme derrière cette œuvre emblématique? Découvrez la vie fascinante d'Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, un écrivain, aviateur, postier, poète et philosophe dont l'œuvre et le destin continuent d'inspirer des générations entières maintenant à la Place Bonaventure de Montréal.

Avec "Le Petit Prince", Saint-Exupéry a touché le cœur de millions de lecteurs à travers le globe. Ce conte philosophique, traduit dans de nombreuses langues, raconte l'histoire intemporelle d'un petit prince venu d'une planète lointaine, abordant des thèmes universels tels que l'amitié, l'amour et la quête de vérité. À travers ce récit, Saint-Exupéry nous invite à redécouvrir notre capacité à voir au-delà de l'apparence, à cultiver l'émerveillement et à préserver l'innocence de l'enfance en nous. Dès votre entrée dans l'exposition, vous pourrez écouter le récit au coeur de magnifiques reproductions des images classiques de l'oeuvre. Le coup de coeur est la salle immersive, la 32e espace, dont vous voyez un exemplaire plus haut. 

Paul Dupont-Hébert est l'instigateur de ce projet créé en collaboration avec la Fondation de Saint-Exupéry. Lors de la visite de presse, M. Dupont-Hébert nous a raconté comment le personnage du Petit Prince est inspiré par l'enfant d'un ami que Saint-Exupéry a connu pendant son séjour au Québec.

L'exposition, mise en scène dans un grand espace de la Place Bonaventure, raconte aussi la vie d'Antoine de Saint-Exupéry qui a été ponctuée de défis et de tragédies. Engagé dans les Forces françaises libres pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il a continué à voler comme pilote de reconnaissance. Sa disparition en mission au-dessus de la Méditerranée le 31 juillet 1944 demeure entourée de mystère, renforçant le caractère légendaire de cet écrivain au destin tragique.

Aujourd'hui, grâce à cette exposition mettant en lumière son œuvre et son héritage, vous avez l'opportunité de plonger dans l'univers captivant d'Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Des répliques d'avions, des projections de films, des montages audiovisuels et des témoignages de l'écrivain, de sa famille et de ses amis nous permettent de mieux comprendre l'homme derrière "Le Petit Prince" et de célébrer son héritage immortel.

FANTASIA ANNOUNCES A STUNNING FIRST WAVE OF TITLES FOR ITS 28th EDITION

The Fantasia International Film Festival will celebrate its upcoming 28th edition with an electrifying program of screenings, workshops, and launch events running from July 18 through August 4, 2024, returning yet again at the Concordia Hall and J.A. de Sève cinemas, with additional screens and events at Montreal’s Cinémathèque québécoise and Cinéma du Musée.
 
The festival’s full lineup will be announced on July 3, but in the meantime, Fantasia is excited to reveal a select first wave of premiere titles, along with a first look at its 2024 poster art.
 
 
The festival’s 2024 poster art, created by Montreal visual artist Donald Caron, brings back two of the festival’s most-beloved characters from earlier editions, returning by popular demand. The cinema-loving cat and pug, barreling into the future on a sidecar motorcycle, embody the excitement, playfulness, and absurdity that Fantasia has championed since its inception in 1996.

 

CHUCK RUSSELL RETURNS TO HORROR WITH WITCHBOARD, A WILD RE-IMAGINING OF THE CLASSIC 80'S FRANCHISE!
 
From A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS and the beloved1988 remake of THE BLOB to THE MASK, ERASER, and THE SCORPION KING, director Chuck Russell has no shortage of imaginative fantasy/horror classics under his belt. THE ADAMS FAMILY BIRTH CREATURES AT A SERBIAN FRACKING SITE IN HELL HOLE

A road trip through Canadian oil fields conjured up fantasies of secrets deep in the dirt for the Adams family, and inspired them to create HELL HOLE, an indie rock-n-roll monster movie set at a far-away fracking site. Known for their DIY ethos, John and Lulu Adams and Toby Poser, partnering with Shudder, have joined the team behind The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs and FX legend Todd Masters to shoot their latest in Serbia with a local cast and crew. Absurd, mutinous, and transgressively comical, Hell Hole is old-school sci-fi horror, yet in typical family fashion, they subvert the genre with textures of biological and environmental horror in tandem with questions of gender and bodily autonomy. Junior police officers Balraam and Zubeida make a cute couple, but not the most diligent detectives. Called to a posh apartment tower to investigate a reported murder, the seemingly straightforward case quickly becomes a conundrum that would confuse even Sherlock Holmes. When the victim herself returns from the afterlife, matters become even more muddled, and soon enough the question isn’t who killed her... but who didn’t?! With the deadpan delirium of his debut feature, Mumbai-based editor and filmmaker Pratul Gaikwad offers a very odd, otherworldly mutation on the much-loved mystery-comedy genre. A FANTASTICAL JAPAN RETURNS IN FLY ME TO THE SAITAMA: FROM BIWA LAKE WITH LOVE

After stealing hearts at Fantasia 2019, where FLY ME TO THE SAITAMA won the Audience Award for Best Asian Feature, director Hideki Takeuchi returns to a fantastical version of Japan—“definitely not a portrayal of any actual place”—with a completely original story independent from the ’80s manga from which it takes its name. Japanese music superstar Gackt and co-star Fumi Nikaido are back as Rei and Momomi in FROM BIWA LAKE WITH LOVE, now supported by an equally delightful cast of new characters as they crank up the genre-bending, highly stylized shenanigans that made the first film so unforgettable. Complete with a boys-love triangle, hilarious parodic references including a wacky Willy Wonka number, and the return of its meta story-within-a-story structure, this sequel is a worthy continuation with even more to offer! North American Premiere. 
 

A SPECIAL HOMECOMING FOR ANNICK BLANC'S ACCLAIMED HUNTING DAZE

Lauded following its premiere at SXSW, Annick Blanc's highly anticipated debut feature finally makes its way home. HUNTING DAZE takes us on a wild trip, following Nina's (Nahéma Ricci, ANTIGONE) journey as she takes refuge with a rowdy group of men after being stranded in a northern forest. The film plays like a drunken fever dream, exposing a microcosm of masculinity in which one's desire to belong threatens to upend the group. With dreamy visuals and transfixing performances by a cast of Quebec talent (Marc Beaupré, Alexandre Landry, Bruno Marcil), this is a bachelor weekend unlike any you've ever seen.Canadian Premiere.

Monsieur Rose Enchante le Paysage Urbain de Montréal avec l'Art du Mignonisme

Les rues de Montréal sont maintenant baignées d'une teinte rosée alors que Monsieur Rose, l'incarnation du Mignonisme, honore le Quartier des Spectacles et le centre-ville de Montréal. Dès aujourd'hui jusqu'au 29 septembre 2024, les Montréalais·es, les festivali·ers·ères et les touristes sont conviés à voir la vie en rose à travers l'œuvre "Le Mignonisme par Philippe Katerine." L'artiste renommé Philippe Katerine lui-même est à Montréal pour cette occasion, prêt à engager le dialogue avec le public et à parsemer un brin de fantaisie dans leur quotidien.

Philippe Katerine, pionnier du Mignonisme, a exprimé sa joie : "Je suis ravi de voir Monsieur Rose poursuivre son voyage à travers le monde et passer ses vacances d'été à Montréal ! Il peindra le centre-ville en nuances de rose, et j'espère qu'il apportera de la joie et une touche de folie dans la vie quotidienne des Montréalais."  

La mairesse Valérie Plante a fait écho à ce sentiment, mettant en avant la créativité et l'innovation montréalaises, qui seront mises en lumière comme jamais auparavant grâce à la présence de Monsieur Rose. La collaboration entre la ville et l'œuvre unique promet une fusion passionnante. "C'est un honneur d'accueillir le parcours Le Mignonisme imaginé par Philippe Katerine, qui colorera le Quartier des Spectacles au cours des prochains mois. J'invite les Montréalais·es et les visiteurs à découvrir et à profiter de tout ce que notre centre-ville a à offrir," a-t-elle déclaré.

L'expérience du Mignonisme se prolonge tout au long de l'été avec quinze sculptures monumentales roses ornant des lieux clés du centre-ville de Montréal, du Nouveau Centre au Quartier des Spectacles, en passant par la Place des Arts et le Square Phillips. Un seizième Monsieur Rose monumental rejoindra l'aventure au Complexe Desjardins dans les prochaines semaines. De plus, une œuvre numérique originale donnant vie aux Monsieur Rose, créée par l'artiste montréalais Jérémy Fassio en collaboration avec Philippe Katerine, animera les façades du Quartier des Spectacles et de la Place des Arts.

The Montreal English Theatre Community comes together to announce exciting 24/25 season



MTL Launch Promises an Exciting 24/25 English Theatre Season of Collaboration and Reflection

On the first Monday of May, a delegation of 7 of Montreal English Theatre’s most long standing and beloved companies joined together alongside their community partner, the Quebec Drama Federation, to announce their programming for the 24/25 season. The event, well attended by patrons and practitioners alike, featured the unveiling of over 25 upcoming productions, programs and projects in development.

In the years following the global event that changed the world: the COVID-19 pandemic, a slow recovery for the industry saw many seasons (though not all) offering opportunities for patrons to escape and re-engage with live performance. Imago Theatre, Geordie Theatre, Black Theatre Workshop, Infinithéâtre, Repercussion Theatre, Talisman Theatre and Tableau D’Hôte Theatre are now going below the procedural mask this season and examining the ripple effects that 2020 has had on our world, our humanity and on our individual selves. Patrons can look forward to engaging with themes such as friendship, sexuality and identity in works such as Geordie and Imago Theatre’s The Wolves and Imago’s Scorpio Moon, the importance of Indigenous and disability justice in Geordie’s Jordan, or dive into the complexities of parenting, family and intergenerational dynamics in Infinithéâtre’s Sinkhole (Or Six Ways to Disappear) or Black Theatre Workshop’s Taking Care of Maman. Mental health is a theme seen through the majority of the delegation’s seasons such as with Talisman, bringing back their 2024 Wildside Festival project Still Life as a full mainstage production.

Some companies riveted launch attendees with their experimental approaches to their seasons. Repercussion, known for their fan favourite programming, Shakespeare in the Park is returning to parks across Montreal, this time inspired by the travelling troupes of Shakespeare’s day and experimenting with form with Infinite Variety. Tableau D’Hôte was thrilled to announce Panicle adapting Gillian Sze book of poetry for the stage as a choreopoem, fuelled primarily by Jennifer Manning and choreographer Cai Glover’s American Sign Language inspired translation.

Attendees were also treated to many exciting partnership and co-production announcements, both amongst the presenting delegation as well as with other local and national partners. Black Theatre Workshop, Canada’s longest running Black theatre company, is elevating voices across the country, taking many of their projects on the road with The Great Canadian Theatre Company in Ottawa and Roseneath Theatre in Toronto. Geordie Theatre was elated to announce two world premiere plays for its 2PlayTour, as it continues to bring relevant and impactful theatre to youth across Eastern Canada and expands to reach even more remote communities than ever before. Beyond its mainstage production, Talisman was named on numerous instances as an artistic partner, in particular with Infinithéâtre.

Beyond productions, many of the companies also announced the return or launch of programming, development and mentorship opportunities. Infinithéâtre boasted development at the centre of their season, announcing the return of their playwriting competitions and readings as well as the development of two new pieces: Whalefall and Noli. Black Theatre Workshopannounced the return of their recently re-invigorated national Artist Mentorship Program, as well as their playwrights’ festival Club Zed. At, Geordie Theatre, Indigenous voices and stories take centre stage through its upcoming works in development, Mohawk Moods and Nikanihk.

Despite the plethora of riveting works already presented, many companies within the delegation, such as Tableau D’Hôte who mark their 20th anniversary this year, left attendees on the edge of their seats with the promise of extra surprises throughout the season. What those surprises may be is for us to await with bated breath. Whether you’re looking to venture outdoors for Shakespearean works that dive into arts politics in Quebec, or to relive your She’s the Man nostalgia with a power house ensemble of emerging actresses, it’s a great time to be a theatre lover in Montreal.
